This is especially the case if they are here for two weeks, as that means there are plenty of hours to spend embracing the sights and sounds of the capital during the weekend. But what is the best way to make use of your time here? Here are our top suggestions.

See the sights

If sightseeing is your thing, then you won’t be disappointed. From the London Eye and Buckingham Palace to the Houses of Parliament and Leicester Square, the city has a plethora of attractions that are not only easy to get to but are internationally recognised. In terms of taking them all in over two days, it’s probably wise to plan your route to ensure you see everything. Some landmarks are within walking distance of each other, while others may require a short taxi or tube trip. Alternatively, you can always take an open-top bus tour. These hop-on, hop-off modes of transport allow you to travel from one attraction to another and are regular enough for you to spend time around the sites that you have the most interest in before easily moving on again.

Sample the cuisine

When it comes to food, London offers one of the most eclectic samples of eateries that you can imagine. Be warned though, for the best venues you would be well advised to book in advance of travelling over – as tables are filled very quickly and with good reason! Alternatively, try one of the city’s bustling markets for some real culinary delights. Borough Market is the capital’s oldest food market, where you can take advantage of the many free samples on offer throughout the stalls.

Check the events schedule

London is a city that is very much alive, with special events and festivals taking place every weekend. It’s well worth seeing what’s on before finalising your plans during your downtime, as many of the gatherings are unlike anything else in the world. From Notting Hill Carnival to London Fashion Week and the London Film Festival, these world-renowned celebrations are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what might be going on.
